Everyone agreed to play the game

Denmark national team boss Kasper Hjulmand has explained why his players decided to resume their Euro 2020 game with Finland following the collapse of Christian Eriksen, stating that his team could play the rest of the match either the same day or the next day. The Danish side’s play against their Nordic neighbours was suspended late in the first half on Saturday night after Eriksen dropped on the field at Parken Arena, sparking prolonged attempts to resuscitate him by medical personnel. The Inter star was ultimately revived and taken to the hospital, where he remains stable, with Denmark eventually electing to continue with their fixture, and finally 1-0 defeat. “We had two options, play the game today or tomorrow at 12 pm,” an emotional Kasper told reporters. “Everyone agreed to play the game.”

The most important thing in life is to have valuable relationships

“You can’t play the game with that feeling, but there were no players who could go home, sleep and get up again after what happened. We tried to win. It was incredible to come out and try to play that second half. Honestly, we had players out there that were completely done, emotionally made and emotionally exhausted.” The former Nordsjaelland coach paid an additional tribute to his players, who formed a protective shield around Eriksen and the medical staff during the extended stoppage and held up white blankets to shield him when he was removed from the field. “We have a group of players that I cannot praise enough,” he added. “I couldn’t be proud of the people who cared so well for each other. The way the players talked in the dressing room, deciding to do nothing before we knew Christian was conscious, is something to be applauded.”

“It was a tough night. We are all reminded that the most important thing in life is to have valuable relationships, the people we are close to, our family and our friends. Everything, everything, everything – all thoughts with Christian and his family.”
