Kasper Schmeichel will return to the Leicester lineup for the match against Chelsea on Thursday, but his future is uncertain as the club looks for a long-term replacement for the Dane.

Last weekend’s 5-1 triumph against Watford saw the club captain replaced by Danny Ward. Sanchez’s current deal has three years left on it, and Brighton are expected to demand a high price for him, putting him out of reach for all but the richest teams this summer.

Leicester City are not among them, and they will almost certainly have to trade players in order to supply manager Brendan Rodgers with the outfield players he desires.
Schmeichel has been at Leicester since 2011, when he signed a one-year contract worth £1 million. Leicester have won the Premier League, FA Cup, and Community Shield during his time at the club, as well as reaching the Champions League quarter-finals and Europa League semi-finals.

The 35-year-old is one of the club’s highest earners, with his current contract expiring in 12 months. He indicated earlier this season that he could look for a new challenge before the conclusion of his career.
‘He is extremely pleased here,’ Rodgers added. Naturally, he is approaching the age when he can see the finish line a little further down the road, but he appears to be in good spirits in my chats with him.

‘He just has a year left.’ It is critical for him and for us that he is in the finest possible condition.

‘We saw with Danny Ward that there is a struggle, but I believe he [Schmeichel] wants to stay here.’ I believe he wants to continue the battle and his career here, and he has had a tremendous career up to this point.

‘Kasper was supposed to play the final two games.’ I’ve informed Kasper that he will be facing Chelsea and Southampton.’
