Kieron Pollard scored 34 runs for Surrey as Surrey secured a four-wicket Vitality Blast win over Hampshire Hawks. The Trinidadian had previously played short innings for Surrey in his first five games with a top score of 23.

But after Jamie Smith and Laurie Evans chased down a modest 152 down the order, Pollard made 34 off 22 balls with the help of two sixes and three fours. Surrey are currently at the top of the North Group. James Fuller scored an unbeaten 39 for Hampshire and Liam Dawson bowled well for Surrey with 2-21.

Surrey trapped Hampshire on a fast and bouncy pitch and saw the hosts lay a good foundation in the powerplay by reaching 41-1. Ben McDermott quickly returned to the pavilion and James Vince was dropped twice on five and 19, but still managed to score only 30 runs.

Vince scored a scintillating century against Kent on Friday night, overtaking Chris Lynn to top the chart for most runs. Jamie Overton took the wickets of both Tom Perst and Vince. Overton will be hoping to make his Test debut against New Zealand later this week.

Toby Albert and Ross Whiteley couldn’t do much. Chris Jordan later took a surprise catch on his own bowling to dismiss the latter. All but the Hawks found themselves on 94-6 with just six overs left. Fuller and Dawson shared a 52-run partnership to give the hosts something to defend. Fuller’s 39 runs included three fours and two huge sixes. Surrey’s powerplay copied Hampshire’s. They lost Will Jack, but Smith held on with some lovely shot making.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Jamie Smith scored 25 runs in 19 balls with the help of five fours. After that Sunil Narine came and returned to the pavilion after hitting a six and four. The team’s score was the four wicket for 88 runs.

Pollard led the innings in his 598th T20I with two lofty sixes off Crane. Simultaneously, Kieron Pollard also hit three fours. By the time Fuller got Pollard out, he had done his job and the team needed just 22 runs from 26 balls.

The rest of the work was done by Jordan hitting a six off the last ball of the final over, then Chris Wood’s wide with five balls to spare ended the match. Hampshire Hawks 151/7 lost to Surrey 152/6 by four wickets
