Kieron Pollard Retires From International Cricket, Know The Reasons
West Indies cricket team captain Kieron Pollard suddenly retired from international cricket. Pollard, who started his career in 2007, is currently in India, where he is showing strength for Mumbai Indians. The all-rounder, who played 123 ODIs and 101 T20 Internationals, never played Test cricket.
He will continue to play in franchise T20 and T10 leagues around the world. The 34-year-old Pollard, who made his ODI debut in 2007, played his last series against India, which is his second home in the Indian Premier League due to his long association with Mumbai Indians.
Pollard announced on his official Instagram page, ‘After extensive discussion, I have decided to retire from international cricket. It was my dream to play for West Indies from the age of ten and I am proud to have represented West Indies for more than 15 years in the T20 and One Day International formats of the game.
Pollard, one of the most successful T20 cricketers, was not as successful for the West Indies. He took 55 wickets in 123 One Day Internationals, scoring 2706 runs at an average of just over 26. He scored 1569 runs in 101 T20 Internationals and took 44 wickets.
The highlight of his international career was six sixes in the over of Akila Dhananjaya of Sri Lanka in the T20 International. He was part of the West Indies team that won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2012. He never got a chance to play Test cricket.
The specific reason behind his retirement is still uncertain. This year has been bad for his IPL team Mumbai Indians. In couple of matches, Kieron Pollard had the responsibility to step up and guide the team towards victory. However, he failed to do. Maybe, he is looking ahead spending more time in franchise league.
Kieron Pollard is a T20 specimen despite of his recent form in the format. Surely, considering T20 World Cup in Australia later this year, it could be big blow to the West Indies team. The team might miss him in crucial moments because he brings such an experience and batting power to the playing 11 set up. There is no official statement from the West Indies board yet. It will be interesting to see what will be his move after IPL.
