Fan footage of the row between Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah during Liverpools’ draw at West Ham has quickly gone viral on social media.
After a subdued performance in the Merseyside derby, Salah was dropped by Klopp for Saturday afternoon’s must-win match at the London Stadium. There was visible tension between the pair, who were seen squabbling on the touchline shortly after West Ham scored to grab a 2-2 draw.
A new clip of the incident showed Salah and Klopp touching hands briefly before the incident. The Egyptian international, who was eventually pacified by Darwin Nunez on the side of the pitch, stormed straight down the tunnel at full-time and warned there would be ” fire ” if he spoke about the spat as he walked through the mixed zone post-match.
Klopp played down the incident in his interview. When he was asked if he could disclose what was said, he revealed: “No. We spoke already in the dressing room, for me that’s done.”
Reacting to the scenes after the match, former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch admitted the clash wasn’t good. He said: “It didn’t look good. I can’t say exactly what they’re saying, it didn’t look good. I don’t think it looks good for the club”.
“Listen Mo Salah is a player who starts the majority of games for Liverpool. He’ll be fuming to be on the bench. Players like that who are expected to start are never happy. But no-one likes to see this, between a manager and a real key player.”
Commentator Ally McCoist added: “Not good at all. Particularly when you see Mo Salah coming back for another bite and one of his teammates has to intervene. It does not look good, that kind of stuff should be behind closed doors.”
When McCoist was then asked if he thought Salah would also leave Anfield in the summer, he added: “Yeah I do actually. I think he has been one of the best players we have seen in this league. He’s been nothing short of fantastic for Liverpool. However. his form has dipped – I don’t think anyone can argue that”.
“It is guesswork, but it looks to me like he could be moving. It could be one of these situations that suits both parties. It might suit Mo Salah to move on and it might suit Liverpool to reinvest the money they’ll get for him.”
