With 10 days of the transfer window remaining, one of the key topics that still has yet to be resolved is the future of Jules Kounde.

Kunde’s future was connected with many teams

The Sevilla central defender reached an agreement with Chelsea a number of weeks ago, yet a number of factors have conspired to mean that the deal remains far from completion. Chelsea need to sell one of their current centre-backs in order to bring in Kounde, and whilst they are currently looking to finalise a deal to sell Kurt Zouma to West Ham United, this move has been made complicated due to the Frenchman’s reluctance to leave the club.

Meanwhile, although the sale of Kounde would mean a record sale for Sevilla, they have other interests in play at a decisive stage in the transfer market. The 22-year-old has a release clause of 80 million euros, yet, as is the case in the contracts of many players, this clause increases by a certain percentage with two weeks or less of the transfer window remaining in order for the club to protect themselves against an irreparable loss. Therefore, Kounde’s release clause has increased to 90m euros, and at the same time Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui has been preparing for the season ahead with his star central defender firmly in his plans.

Sevilla is looking for Kounde’s replacement

Sevilla are aware that selling Kounde now would mean securing his replacement in record time, which would be an extremely difficult task. There are still two weeks remaining, as we await to see whether Kounde makes the move to Stamford Bridge this summer. It seems that France national team performances influenced the players’ rating and interest from other clubs. Keep in mind that before the clash against Portugal, France’s full-back was on the radar of Real Madrid.
