Kylian Mbappe’s promotion to the role of vice-captain of Paris Saint-Germain announced by Christophe Galtier.
PSG are adamant about keeping Mbappe, who is now 24 years old and one of the top players in Europe, on their roster, despite strong interest from Real Madrid and Liverpool. While Jurgen Klopp is a major fan of the Frenchman, the Spanish giants sought to sign him last summer before he signed to a new contract with PSG but were unsuccesful.
It is claimed that neither club has given up on the idea of signing Mbappe, and the player himself is interested. The international player for France still has 18 months remaining on his current contract, and there is an option for an additional 12 months. Mbappe is the only player who can exercise that option, which would give him the ability to demand a transfer.
As a result, Paris Saint-Germain is not resting on its laurels. Mbappe has been given the vice-captaincy by Galtier in order to demonstrate to the potential winner of the Ballon d’Or how vitally crucial he is to the Paris Saint-Germain enterprise. Considering the fact that Galtier can call upon players of the highest caliber, this is an impressive show of goodwill.
A few of the world’s best players, including Lionel Messi, Sergio Ramos, Neymar, and Gianluigi Donnarumma, are now under contract with Paris Saint-Germain. A good number of them have previously served as captains for their respective clubs and national teams, including Real great Ramos and Barcelona superstar Messi.
Despite this, Mbappe remains PSG’s vice-captain and the player who will step in for Brazilian defender Marquinhos if the latter is unable to play. After PSG’s crushing 7-0 victory over Pays de Cassel in the Coupe de France on Monday night, Galtier remarked that the young forward deserved to wear the captain’s armband in the absence of Marquinhos, who had made the decision to remain with the club.
“I decided that he is the second captain since the beginning of the season, he deserves to have this armband when Marquinhos is not there,” Galtier said.
“He is a striker of the highest caliber, and among the very finest in the whole wide world. That’s just how he is. He did not abuse the system, and the goals just came to him naturally following combinations. He is designed to score goals”.
Mbappe is not expected to leave PSG in January, and it is believed that he came back from the World Cup feeling rejuvenated after he won the Golden Boot. It would be in everyone’s best interest to keep him on board and put an end to any rumors that may have been circulating about him.
