Kylian Mbappe‘s powerful strike for PSG against Real Sociedad was hit with such ferocity that it broke a hole in the net.
The French star, Kylian Mbappe, drilled home across the goal to bury the ball in the far corner of the goal during their 2-1 win against the LaLiga side. Replays showed that it seemed to pull part of the netting away from the goalpost.
There was a delay of three-and-a-half minutes while the issue was fixed, before action in the last-16 second leg commenced.
The French World Cup winner sprinted into the left-hand side of the penalty area, before whistling a shot into the far corner from an acute angle which goalkeeper Alex Remiro could not deal with.
Mbappe scored again just before the hour mark, as PSG progressed 4-1 on aggregate, with Mikel Merino only able to get a late consolation for Real Sociedad.
Mbappe’s goal was his 40th goal or assist in all competitions this season, one of the leading figures across Europe’s big five leagues.
The forward is set to leave the French side in the summer on a free transfer, joining Real Madrid after seven years of a love-hate relationship with his current team.
Mbappe has been subbed off in PSG’s last two league games, with some attributing that to his desire to leave the club at the end of the season.
He watched the second half of PSG’s draw with his former side Monaco from the stands after being withdrawn from the action at half-time.
Mbappe reportedly held clear-the-air talks with Luis Enrique, where the PSG coach is thought to have told the forward that the substitutions were not personal, and had nothing to do with his decision to leave the Parc des Princes.
Instead, he believed Mbappe wasn’t fully fit, and wanted to save him for upcoming games of greater importance, such as the Champions League second leg.
League leaders PSG host Reims on Sunday afternoon in their next Ligue 1 outing, before they welcome Nice in the quarter-final of the French Cup three days later.
