Team India is all set to battle Australia in the World Test Championship final. This is India’s second time reaching the WTC final. In the inaugural edition of the championship, they reached the finals and played against New Zealand but ended up being runner-ups, so this time they will be giving it a second shot.
The final will begin a day after tomorrow ( June 7) at the Oval Stadium. The Indian players arrived in England in several groups due to their respective IPL schedules. Ahead of the WTC final, former South Africa all-rounder Lance Klusener made a big statement about one of the team’s stars who is currently not a part of the test squad.

Klusener about Pandya

Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who led Team India in the T20 format this year, has not made himself available for test selection since his return to international cricket last year. Hardik took a break in 2021 to fully recover from his injury and returned to play in the IPL last year, which eventually saw him make a comeback to Team India.
In an interview, HP also said that he hasn’t earned the spot for test cricket, but Klusener recently made a statement and said that “he has given up on test cricket easily. Wherever you are as a cricketer, test cricket is always the vertex of testing yourself.

Hardik will grind and earn the spot

Klusener further said, “He is an outstanding cricketer, and if he can stay fit and continue to bowl at 135 kmph, he will always go down as one of the best all-rounders in the world. Earlier this year, when Pandya was asked about his future in test cricket, he said, “I haven’t grinded yet to reach there, so it would not be morally right for me to go there and replace someone. So I will not be available for the WTC final or any  test series until I have earned that place through grind.

Pandya is not available for the test, but in T20s and ODIs, he is showing a good form. In IPL 2023 too, he led his team Gujarat Titans to the finals for the second time in a row. The team won the previous year’s edition but this time lost the final, which was very close till the very end.
