The Spanish national team should not play at the Camp Nou
Joan Laporta announced his candidacy for the upcoming Barcelona presidential elections on January 24 and made a controversial statement as to whether the Spain national team will be happy to play games at Camp Nou. The former Barcelona president admitted that Spain may not be received well in the city. He explained that there are other places where fans are supporting La Roja’s better over the years than in Catalonia. “President of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales, is an intelligent person who knows what is best for the team is to play where they have more support, like in Sevilla, Valencia or Madrid,” Laporta said.
“And it may not be the right place here in Barcelona. The best decision for Spain not to play at Camp Nou is that the conditions here are not very positive for them”. Laporta, who has openly spoken out in the past in support of the Catalan independence movement. He stressed that all views would be accepted by his board if elected in January. “I do not want to enter into polemics,” Laporta said. “I don’t give up what I think and feel. But Barcelona has greatness to be able to defend the rights of Catalonia. And at the same time integrate and respect everyone. Everyone fits into the Barcelona project that I propose.”
