PSG will be optimistic about their opportunities for luring him to the French capital. “They are tactless, I thought it was disrespectful,” Laporta told reporters when asked about Leonardo’s comments on Messi.
PSG are rude
Joan Laporta has once again stepped out and was critical of Paris Saint-Germain after openly saying they would like to sign Lionel Messi as soon as his contract expires on June 30. The Catalan club’s dire financial condition with a debt of €1.173 billion means that keeping the Argentinean will be difficult. So PSG will be optimistic about their opportunities for luring him to the French capital. “They are tactless, I thought it was disrespectful,” Laporta told reporters when asked about Leonardo’s comments on Messi. “PSG’s behaviour didn’t make me happy. In my opinion, they didn’t respect Barcelona as a club. The French side are now a team to be reckoned with in Europe, but their attitude disappointed me. I understand perfectly well that Neymar says he wants to play with Leo Messi. I would also like to play with him.”
Barcelona have to do their best to look after Messi and convince him to stay at the club
“But for a club representative to say that it is out of place, it shows his lack of experience at this level. They still have a lot to learn in the world of football.” PSG recently reported losses for the last fiscal year, so if they sign Messi and don’t make any significant sales, Laporta wants them to be investigated concerning financial fair play. “As far as I know, last year PSG had big financial losses,” he stated. “I would like to know if they are going to ignore the rules of financial fair play to sign him. If that happens, I hope that UEFA and FIFA will react firmly and that the Court of Arbitration for Sport will not be shaken when issuing their verdict.”
Laporta ended by clarifying that Barcelona need to do everything to try to convince Messi to stay at the Camp Nou. “We have to do our best to look after Messi and convince him to stay at Barcelona,” he stated. “The financial proposal adapted to the capabilities of the club. But we will also have to be convincing with the sporting project.”
