However, recently, India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal has grabbed the headlines for scoring an amazing century in his test debut against the West Indies. Jaiswal has become the 17th Indian batsman to achieve this triumph. Today in this article, we will take a look at the last five batsmen who scored a century on Test debut before Jaiswal.

 

Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer, who is currently recovering from back injuries, made his test debut in 2021 against New Zealand. He made a brilliant start to his career and scored 105 runs. During the second inning, he continued to show his great form and scored 65 runs. India drew that match with New Zealand.
 
Prithvi Shaw
The 23-year-old Prithvi Shaw made his test debut in October against West Indies in Rajkot. The right-handed batsman smashed a 100 in his debut and also won the Man of the Match award for his amazing knock of 134 runs. Shaw led the Indian U-19 team in the U-19 World Cup, where they won the final against Australia. He has had an amazing start, but the youngster has not yet cemented his place in the Indian team.
 
Rohit Sharma
The current Indian team captain, Rohit Sharma, made his debut in 2013, but he was already an established player in the ODI and T20 formats. Rohit’s test debut was also against the West Indies at Eden Gardens, where he played a fantastic innings of 177 runs and India registered a big win.

 

Shikhar Dhawan
Shikhar Dhawan had a remarkable test debut against Australia in March 2013, scoring 187 runs off 174 balls. India won that match by six wickets, and he got the Man of the Match award. Dhawan is no longer in the Indian team, but he has played 34 test matches for India.

 

Suresh Raina
Suresh Raina made his debut in July 2010 against Sri Lanka, where he scored 120 runs and helped India draw the match. Raina was featured in 18 tests for the country and last appeared in January 2015 against Australia. He announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket on August 15, 2020, the same day India’s former skipper MSD retired.
