Deandra Dottin’s six sixes went in vain for Manchester Originals as Laura Wolvaardt played a match winning innings of 90 off 49 balls which helped Northern Superchargers seal a stunning comeback win at Headingley to beat the home side by seven wickets.

Dottin calls herself the ‘world boss’ and her unbeaten 68 off 30 balls proves to be his boss. The former West Indies international hit three consecutive sixes off Superchargers left-arm spinner Lynsey Smith as the Originals made 69 off their last 25 balls to make 160-3 in their 100 balls.

Superchargers had 20 balls to spare and the hosts needed 48, but Wolvaardt (90 off 49) sent six of the next seven balls for boundaries.

It became 11 for five after a costly over from Originals captain Kate Cross, in which Dottin bowled the last five deliveries. Deandra Dottin batted brilliantly but bowled a no-ball while bowling, missed an opportunity to run out to Heather Graham (11no) and was drilled for four by Laura Wolvaardt, before the 99th ball of the innings was the match winner. Deflected off Graham’s ball for leg. The Superchargers thus set a record run chase in the women’s competition.

Superchargers’ win was their second in four games, while the Originals – somehow – slipped from a four to third loss. Dottin had earlier hit a six and three fours off Graham in the final set of 21 runs, which included Sophie Ecclestone ( 24 off 17) also hit three fours off Jenny Gunn as she and Dottin added 74 runs in 33 balls.

Former South African opener Lizelle Lee hit 40 off 27 balls at the top of the order when the Superchargers missed an opportunity to run her out for five – but Amy Campbell (7) was run out after a poor lapse of concentration. Done, failed to return.

Australia opener Alyssa Healy contributed 25 of 18 for the Superchargers before Laura Wolvaardt chased down the score and then ignited the game in the final leg, Ecclestone, expensively Tahuhu (0–34 off 15 balls) And completed a stunning victory by hitting fours and sixes off Dotin’s ball.
