Lee Grant says the ability to push his fellow Man Utd goalkeepers to even greater heights was one of the main reasons he decided to extend his stint at Old Trafford despite being the fourth choice.

Lee Grant feels appreciated in the club

The 38-year-old has made just two competitive appearances in the two years since joining Stoke in 2018, but has renewed his contract for another season despite being pushed further down the line after Tom Heaton’s arrival. However, Lee Grant says he feels appreciated at the club and believes he still has a role to play, even as he stands behind Dean Henderson, David de Gea and now Tom Heaton in red devils biting into order.

Challenge young guys

Speaking of the reasons behind his decision to stay on, Lee Grant told Man Utd that he thinks the sense of value and pleasure in your role is immense, whichever line of work you are in, and is obviously lucky that he got the opportunity to do it in such a wonderful club. Whoever has gloves at this particular time, the other guys need to really push – not only support, but push and challenge whoever is playing to make sure that they, as a team and as a department, can get the best possible results.

Whether it’s David, Tom, Dean, or himself, they will all be prodded to play and excited and ready to support whoever is playing. According to Lee Grant, they are fortunate here at Man Utd that they have four characters who are able to get along and coexist, which is not always the case. This allows them to nudge each other and sincerely and authentically push each other and challenge each other on the training ground. Lee Grant thinks this is one of the reasons the club chose to keep him close because he helps them do that too. Challenge the young guys, push and, as Grant says, make sure the levels are really high for those who play on the weekend.
