India began their campaign in the third edition of the World Test Championship against West Indies yesterday, and we got to see some amazing sights during the first session. In this first test, India officially entered the transition phase by not only giving debuts to Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ishan Kishan but also giving the hosts a tough day after they opted to bat first in the match. Despite lacking their frontline pacers, Jaspreet Bumrah and Mohammad Shami, the team’s spin department presented an amazing show. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja made their presence felt from the first session and were helped by some quick fielding and brilliant catching.
The first match saw some amazing catches
Playing his first match, Wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan took a couple of quick catches—one on Shardul Thakur’s ball and one off Jadeja’s. But Mohammad Siraj’s catch to dismiss Jermaine Blackwood on Jadeja’s bowl was exceptional. On the last bowl of the first session, Blackwood hit a big shot on Jadeja’s bowl. It was a risky shot, as West Indies had already lost three wickets and needed to settle. It was the last over before the lunch break, and the pitch had plenty for a spinner of Jadeja’s stature to trouble.
Siraj’s effort surprised everyone

Blackwood could not reach the pitch of the ball, it seemed that he did not even attempt it and paid the price. There was no elevation in the shot, but when the ball left his bat, many on the ground thought that it had enough reach to clear the mid-off fielder, but Siraj had different ideas as he took a few steps to his right and jumped in the air with his hands extended to get the bowl. He succeeded in catching the bowl and didn’t lose control even after a hard landing. The players celebrated first but went quickly to Siraj, who woke up a minute later with a big smile, and the players left for lunch.
