Brendan Rodgers insists he is ‘disappointed’ after his side failed to beat the 10-man Southampton to cement the Champions League spot.

Southampton held Leicester to a 1-1 draw to deny the Foxes the crucial 3 points in their race for the top four. Jannik Vestergaard’s red card reduced Soton to 10 men but Leicester could not take the numerical advantage.

“[It’s] a little frustrating, I don’t think we did enough to win the game. A great opportunity against 10 men,” Rodgers said.

“We’re normally very good at that. Give credit to Southampton, they defended deep and compact but we’re disappointed,” he revealed.

“We had no change to how we played – it’s an advantage for you. The speed was too slow. We didn’t really start to play with that tempo until we got the equalizer,” the former Liverpool coach said.

The Leicester boss insists they should have taken the numerical advantage. However, Rodgers admits he has not seen the red card incident and will have to see it again.

“I haven’t seen the red card back. I need to see it again,” Rodger admits.

“We had a lot of ball on the sides so we took off the defenders to get attacking impetus. We arrived in good positions but didn’t have the timing when we got in there,” he continued.

“When we get back in again on Monday it is another point towards where we want to go. We’ve now got four games to go. We’re in a brilliant position,” Rodgers concluded.

Leicester fights to hold on to third place as the season edge its conclusion. The Foxes have to keep up to ensure they won’t let go of the Champions League spot.

Meanwhile, midfielder James Maddison blasts his team’s slip-up. He claims that anything could happen in football as the race to secure a top-four spot tightens.

“There’s so much football to be played and so much to happen,” Maddison said.

“We just have to win and see where we are after 38 matches,” he added.
