Leroy Sane will miss the DFL-Supercup final game

Leroy Sane will skip Bayern Munich’s DFL-Supercup final match against BVB through a knee injury, Hansi Flick confirms. Since joining the Allianz Arena from Manchester City for €60 million back in July, Sane has enjoyed a tough start to life at Bayern Munich. The 24-year-old has netted one goal and two assists in his first three appearances for the club and got his hands on the UEFA Super Cup. Bayern’s victory over Sevilla last week saw them increase their trophies in 2020 to four. They will have the chance to add another trophy to their collection when the Dortmund arrive at the Allianz in the middle of the week. However, Flick’s side head into that encounter are still astonished from a surprise 4-1 loss to Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga on Sunday, ending their 32-match unbeaten run in all competitions.

Bayern Munich mentality is outstanding

The Bayern manager has now revealed that Sane will miss the show against Dortmund due to a knee injury. He will also be unavailable for Germany during the upcoming international break. At the same time, David Alaba is a doubt with a muscle problem. Flick said at the pre-match press conference: “Alaba has muscle problems, so we will have to see how that develops. Leroy Sane will miss out. Hopefully, he will return after the international break. He has a knee injury. Asked to address Bayern’s below-par showing against Hoffenheim, Flick replied: “The mentality of my team is outstanding. Maybe one or two of them are a little tired, but they always give 100 percent on the pitch, which was also the case in Hoffenheim. Unfortunately, we didn’t do anything well that day.

He added to the challenge Dortmund will face Bayern Munich on Wednesday: “Dortmund have a fantastic young side and have experience in their ranks too. They play attractive, offensive football that I love. It will be a test against one of the best in Germany. This game will help us develop.” Bayern have been instructed to offload several players before the transfer window closes, including Javi Martinez and Michael Cuisance. However, Flick still has insisted that both men remain part of his plans. “Both trained today, so I guess they will be in the lineup tomorrow,” he said. “We all know that just before the window closes, the situation is not easy. We still have until October 5. Mika and Xavi are still in the squad and are part of our team.”
