Lille vs PSG

Though looking to end a run of three consecutive 1-1 away draws in Ligue 1, PSG can take encouragement from the fact that they scored an equaliser after the 75th minute on each occasion, showing they should never be discounted if trailing late on.

Lille

Thirty-two points from 22 Ligue 1 games represents an extremely poor campaign for defending champions Lille. The difficulty of their challenge to now avoid a bottom-half finish has only been enhanced by a leaky defence, as Lille’s backline have conceded 30 league goals to date – already seven more than they shipped throughout the entirety of last season! Worryingly for Lille, they’ve not finished higher than fifth on any of the last eight occasions they’ve claimed under 34 points at this stage. Their impressive home league form remains an asset, but the fact they’ve failed to score in six of their previous seven competitive home H2Hs might leave fans fearing the worst here.

PSG

Though seemingly sailing towards their tenth Ligue 1 title, Paris Saint-Germain were dealt a blow after a penalty shootout loss in their Coupe de France round of 16 tie against Nice earlier this week. However, they have the skill to channel that disappointment effectively, and make it nine straight Ligue 1 H2H wins over opposition teams managed by current Lille boss Jocelyn Gourvennec. Though looking to end a run of three consecutive 1-1 away draws in Ligue 1, PSG can take encouragement from the fact that they scored an equaliser after the 75th minute on each occasion, showing they should never be discounted if trailing late on. A winner is expected this time around though, as you have to go back to April 2012 to find the last time PSG registered four Ligue 1 away draws in a row.

Lille’s Jonathan David has scored the game’s opener within 31 minutes in two of the last three H2Hs. PSG’s Marco Verratti has also been a lucky charm, contributing to a win by a 2 goal margin in his last nine goalscoring matches, including a brace during his most recent Ligue 1 outing. The average time (20’) of the first goal in Lille’s home matches is the quickest in the division.
