Pre-match preparations
As you may know, Atletico has a rough period. The team can’t win away matches in La Liga and still struggling in the Champions League. Simeone is trying to adapt to the new faces of Atletico into a new strategy. The team is playing less in attack and can’t score many goals. Atletico was not scoring many goals, but it’s a tough season for attacking the line of Madrid.
1st half of the match
Atletico played the best game of the season indeed so far. We saw that Simeone’s players started playing with high pressure and did everything to interrupt Barcelona’s calm tiki-taka. Atletico Madrid could shot on target twice in the first half. Joao Felix and Alvaro Morata did everything to score a goal. The early goal was impossible because of Ter Stegen. German goalkeeper had fantastic saves in the first half, and amazing fans gathered at Wanda Metropolitano.
Lionel Messi had one dribble in the first 45 minutes and created a fascinating moment for Barcelona. Argentinian player dribbled through two players and gave a pass to Ivan Rakitic. Croatian could not score properly, and Oblak was kind enough to save the shot.
2nd half of the match
In the second half, we saw that Atletico players were tired and could not keep Barcelona anymore. Valverde’s players were not interested in attacking, so the second half was not impressive. It was boring to watch Atletico as Madrid’s side could not shot on target in the second half.
Barcelona became satisfying to watch in the last minutes of the match. As it seems, Lionel Messi got a fresh breath in the second half and decided to change the result match. Messi and Suarez were attacking sharply after the 70th minute, and one of those counter-attacks finished with a goal.
Lionel Messi took the ball in the center of the field and passed to Luis Suarez. Uruguayan player gave a pass to Messi again, and Lionel shot the ball without hesitation. It was hard for Oblak to see Messi’s movement, so he could not react adequately. Messi strikes again and scored his 30th goal against Atletico in his career.
