In an exciting announcement, Bangladesh has unveiled its squad for the upcoming one-off Test against Afghanistan, scheduled to commence on June 15 at the iconic Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. Litton Das has been appointed as the captain and will guide the 15-member squad during the thrilling encounter.

This significant responsibility comes as a result of regular captain Shakib Al Hasan’s unfortunate finger injury, which occurred during the ODI series against Ireland last month. Shakib’s absence has created an opportunity for Litton Das to showcase his leadership skills on the Test arena.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief selector, Minhajul Abedin, expressed his confidence in Litton Das’ ability to make an impression as the Test leader. Abedin remarked, “I think he (Litton) has all the necessary qualities to lead the Test squad, and it’s a tremendous honor for him. It’s an opportunity for us to witness his capabilities as a Test captain, and we firmly believe that he will set an exemplary precedent for the team.”

Litton Das, aged 28, will join an elite group as only the 12th cricketer to captain Bangladesh in Test cricket. This is a remarkable achievement for the talented batsman, who has consistently exhibited his prowess with the bat.

With his exceptional leadership skills and experience playing at the international level, Litton Das is poised to lead the team from the front and inspire his teammates to give their best on the field.

The squad announcement also revealed the return of Taskin Ahmed and Zakir Hasan, who were absent from Bangladesh’s previous Test match against Ireland in April. Their inclusion will strengthen the team’s lineup, providing additional depth and versatility in both the batting and bowling departments.

Moreover, the squad features two promising players, Musfik Hasan and Shahadat Hossain, who have earned their maiden call-ups. Musfik, a talented right-arm pacer, displayed an impressive performance in the recent National Cricket League, securing 25 wickets at an impressive average of 15.92.

Shahadat Hossain, a member of Bangladesh’s victorious U-19 World Cup squad in 2020, showcased his skills in the two unofficial Test matches against West Indies A.

Following the highly anticipated one-off Test, Bangladesh and Afghanistan will lock horns in a thrilling three-match ODI series, followed by two captivating T20Is. Chattogram’s Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium will host all three ODIs, with the action commencing on July 5.

Subsequently, the two T20Is will take place at the picturesque Sylhet District Stadium. The one-off Test, under Litton Das’ leadership, promises to be a gripping contest, offering fans an opportunity to witness the evolution of Bangladesh’s cricketing prowess.
