Liverpool avoided a big late scare as Alisson was sent off for a blatant handball outside his penalty area. The Reds moved 11 points clear with victory over Brighton.

Trent Alexander Arnold made an assist to two Virgil van Dijk’s headers in the first six minutes of the first half.

However, Alisson’s red card gifted the visitors a lifetime. He became the first Reds keeper to be sent off in a Premier League game since the Brazilian Doni in 2012.

With Liverpool at 2- 0, Alisson came rushing out of his penalty area to handle the ball as Brighton attacked.

As a result, the goalkeeper will miss the Merseyside derby with Everton at Anfield on Wednesday.

His actions set up a nerve-wracking finale. Dunk’s free-kick means Klopp’s side is still without a clean sheet since September 28.

Adrian saved his side by keeping out Mooy as mid-table Brighton piled forward in search of an equalizer.

The Reds seemed to be coasting to victory after Van Dijk’s double. Tables turned as Brighton’s keeper, Mat Ryan made three fine saves to frustrate Firmino twice and Salah.

Nonetheless, Liverpool emerged with a 2-1 win against Brighton.

The victory meant Liverpool has equaled their longest ever unbeaten run in the title race. The club has played 31 games without defeat between 1987 May and 1988 March.

Liverpool heads into a demanding December. A month during which the club will play nine fixtures in four different competitions.

“Virgil was so powerful in his actions”

Jurgen Klopp said, “The game didn’t have to be nervy at the end. We had unbelievable chances. Their keeper made some good saves.”

“the game was difficult because Brighton is a good football side. They had a lot of possession and we had to work really hard.”

“I loved that the boys prepared to do that after a busy week.”

Graham Potter said, “There were lots of positives for us. In the first 10-15 minutes, we weren’t quite as aggressive and didn’t have the belief we needed.”

“We gave a really good account of ourselves against a top team. We are disappointed because we came away with nothing but with the performance and the effort, we could have come away with something.”

“We had good chances at 2-0 down. Virgil vs Dijk was so powerful in his two actions for their goals and we were not so good. That is the reality.”

“But over the 90 minutes, we put so much into the game and we need to take that forward and go on improving.”
