Calvin Ramsay, a young Scottish full-back, is now in line to become Liverpool’s third and last summer acquisition after the Reds achieved a breakthrough in their pursuit of him.

The 18-year-old, who was also a target for Leeds, has been the subject of weeks of discussions between the Liverpool club and Aberdeen. An agreement has been arranged under which they would pay an initial £4 million with a further £2.5 million in incentives.

Ramsay, who was voted Scotland’s Young Player of the Month last month, is anticipated to receive authorization to go to Merseyside within the next 24 hours to undertake a medical.

Assuming no unexpected events arise, Ramsay will report to pre-season practice in July.

The Under 21 international made 33 appearances for Aberdeen last season, and the club’s director of football, Steven Gunn, along with chairman Dave Cormack were successful in getting a price that was in line with their promise.

Ramsay will undoubtedly have a difficult task with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool’s right back at the moment, but he will get the chance to work with him when the Champions League finalists go to south-east Asia next month.

After signing Darwin Nunez from Benfica and Fabio Carvalho from Fulham, Liverpool has had a busy start to the summer. Once the legalities with Ramsay are through, that is anticipated to be the end of the club’s purchasing activities.

Many people think Liverpool needs to add a midfielder, but they won’t do so for another 12 months. They tried to get French international Aurelien Tchouameni, but they realized it would be impossible because he was keen to join Real Madrid.

Two members of the current team, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have contracts that expire in 2023, and as of yet, there has been no word on whether either of them will continue.

Although Jude Bellingham, a Borussia Dortmund player and England international, has long been linked with a transfer to Liverpool and is well-known to many members of the team, there is now no chance for him to leave Germany.

Dealing with the players whose futures are in doubt will now be Liverpool’s primary concern.

The teams are still attempting to reach an agreement on a cost for the Senegal international, but Sadio Mane has his heart set on a move to Bayern Munich.
