Liverpool vs. Wolverhampton Wanderers
seeking the quadruple On the last day of the Premier League season, Liverpool welcomes Wolverhampton Wanderers to Anfield, knowing that they can still beat Manchester City to the championship.
To make that happen, the Reds would need a favor from Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa at the Etihad, as well as keeping their half of the deal by finishing an amazing domestic season on a positive note.
Team News
Liverpool
- Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Fabinho, and Joe Gomez, who entered the injured list against Southampton with an ankle problem, remain a doubt. However, the problem has turned out to be less critical than initially thought, and Gomez, along with the others, will be tested in the coming days.
- Salah, despite only being one goal ahead of Son Heung-min in the Golden Boot rankings, appears to be the most likely to be left out entirely. Salah has made no secret of his desire for vengeance in the Champions League final against Real Madrid, and he is reluctant to risk missing the crucial match in Paris next week.
- Trent Alexander-Arnold, Andrew Robertson, Thiago Alcantara, Luis Diaz, and Sadio Mane are among the first-teamers who are unlikely to miss out due to injury.
- Klopp might also give Divock Origi a proper Anfield send-off during the game, after confirming in his press conference that the club’s “legend” will leave when his contract ends this summer.
Wolves
- Wolves will be missing Max Kilman (ankle), Nelson Semedo (hamstring), and Romain Saiss (knee) for the last game of the season, although all three players should be fit for the start of next season if Saiss extends his present contract.
- However, Daniel Podence returned against Norwich City last time out, and Conor Coady, although being brought off at halftime for tactical reasons, should start again.
- There has been rising speculation over the future of Ruben Neves, who might be playing his final game for Wolves on Sunday, and his midfield partner Joao Moutinho, whose contract expires this summer.
Prediction Analysis
In many respects, Liverpool enters this match with nothing to lose, expecting Man City to win and anything else as a pleasant surprise.
Even yet, they can’t afford to think about the Champions League final just yet, and Klopp will field a squad that he believes will win against Wolves, even if he won’t take any chances with his lineup.
With a slew of first-teamers set to return – and the fact that the outcome might mean a lot more to Liverpool than it does to Wolves – we’re supporting the Merseysiders to take all three points.
Our prediction is Liverpool 2-0 Wolves.
