Los Merengues is focusing on the futuristic project. Along with Mbappe and Haaland, Real Madrid wants to invest more in the young generation.
Alvarez Martinez scored at his debut for Uruguay
Real Madrid continue to scour the international market in search of young talent. And one player that has attracted the keen interest of the club scouts is Agustin Alvarez Martinez, who has the potential to be the next Edinson Cavani. The 20-year-old center forward scored on his debut for Uruguay against Bolivia last Sunday, netting Oscar Tabarez’s side’s third goal in the 4-2 victory at Estadio Campeon del Siglo, where he regularly plays home matches for his club, Penarol de Montevideo. Debuting with a goal for La Celeste does not go unnoticed by anyone, and particularly the eyes representing Real Madrid.
Profile of Martinez
Martinez has spent his entire footballing life at Penarol, working his way up through the youth ranks, where he accumulated 113 goals in 170 games. He begins his second season with the senior side this season and has scored 27 goals in 56 games across all competitions since making his debut in February 2020. Measuring 5’9” and with a stout frame, the young forward is a pure battering ram. His current market value on transfermarkt.com is an extremely affordable €3m ($3.3m), although last year he signed a contract extension with Penarol until 2024, which included a $20m termination clause. Football club Penarol is expecting a European club to snap him up sooner or later. If Madrid decided to sign him, he would be destined for Raúl’s Castilla team, which already has Juanmi Latasa and Andri Gudjohnsen in his position, but lacks a born goalscorer. Interestingly, the president of Penarol, Ignacio Ruglio, was on a trip to Madrid back in March and took the opportunity to see ongoing renovation works at the Santiago Bernabeu, where club director Emilio Butragueno took him on a tour.
