The 66th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) was played on Wednesday between Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and KL Rahul-led Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) at the Dr D.Y. Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai. This nail biter came down to the final ball and ended in favour of Lucknow Super Giants, who managed to win the game by two runs, eliminating Kolkata Knight Riders from the tournament and thereby officially qualifying for the IPL 2022 Playoffs.

While the Lucknow Super Giants were looking to qualify for the playoffs, KKR needed a win in this game in order to remain alive in the tournament. KKR will not be troubled much for they showed courage and fight but unfortunately it didn’t go in their favour.

Kolkata Knight Riders really had a outside shot at playoffs, whereas LSG hoped to win this one and by a big margin in order to make their case stronger for the top-2 spot. Lucknow and KKR are both came off of different recent forms, as both teams kept wrestling for victory until the final ball.

Consequently KKR suffered a loss, whereas LSG, which had lost its past two matches, returned to the second spot in the points table.

KKR needed 38 runs from their final two overs, both taking the equation to 21 runs from their last over. KKR bowlers conceded 88 runs over the final five overs, with Tim Southee and Russell turning out to be the more costly bowlers. With Kolkata Knight Riders in need of 21 runs in the final over, Rinku Singh hit Marcus Stoinis for 4, 6, 2 to reduce the total to 3 runs from 2 balls.

After that, it was need of three runs from the final ball, but Umesh Yadav was bowled off Marcus Stoinis with a glorious yorker, and Lucknow Supergiants registered an exciting victory. With 3 runs needed off the last ball, Marcus Stoinis bowled Umesh Yadav cleanly and sealed an exciting 2-run victory for LSG. In response to the LSG innings, KKR fell short by only two runs, scoring 208 for 8 in 20 overs, with Evin Lewis making a sensational catch to turn the game around. A lot of characters came forward in this game and that is what cricket really is.
