Luka Jovic moves to Eintracht Frankfurt
Real Madrid player Luka Jovic has returned to Eintracht Frankfurt on loan for the rest of the season. The Serbian forward, who transferred to Santiago Bernabeu from Deutsche Bank Park for €60 million in the summer of 2019, will see out the remainder of Germany’s current campaign, without the possibility to buy included in the final deal. Luka Jovic established himself as one of the most creative strikers in the Bundesliga during his first spell with Frankfurt but has struggled to meet the same high Spanish capital standards. The 23-year-old has scored just twice in 32 games for Real Madrid to date and was capped at only five club appearances under Zinedine Zidane in 2020-21.
The Serbian needs to get back on track
He will now look forward to rediscovering his best form in familiar surroundings. Frankfurt sporting director Fredi Bobic delighted to see a talismanic figure following his footsteps from a disappointing period in LaLiga. “Luka recently had a tough time in Madrid. He needs to get back on track. It was his great desire to return to Eintracht Frankfurt,” Bobic said at the Jovic’s unveiling on Thursday. “Luka can use the next few months to return to the old strength in a familiar environment. Real Madrid know that he is in good hands and can develop here. “And it’s clear to us that we have another great option in the storm centre”. Jovic could be in line to play when Frankfurt play host to Schalke in the Bundesliga on Sunday night.
Adi Hutter’s side is currently sitting in ninth place in the German top-flight, only five points behind of the Champions League places. Still, they were knocked out of the DFB-Pokal in the second round after suffering a 4-1 thrashing at Bayer Leverkusen’s hands on Tuesday. Frankfurt fans will hope that Jovic can help fire the team back into Europe come May, at which point he will make his way back to Madrid, where he is still under contract until 2025.
