Lukaku and Hazard Leave Camp Due to Fitness Issues
Romelu Lukaku, 28, and Eden Hazard, 30, will not participate in Sunday’s League of Nations playoffs in third place against Italy.
What did Martinez say?
Eden Hazard and Romelu Lukaku were acquitted for the remainder of the international window over concerns over their fitness, Belgium coach Roberto Martinez confirmed Saturday. The stars of Real Madrid and Chelsea were defeated by France in the UEFA Nations League semi-final of Belgium on Thursday, with the former scoring 3-2 in reverse. But they will not take part in Sunday’s third playoff against Italy after battling muscle fatigue after clashing the last four.
Belgium coach Roberto Martinez explained to reporters that Romelu and Hazard are not in the best conditions to play. They leave the national team camp because of these problems – Martinez does not know how long it will take them to recover. Romelu Lukaku, however, will not report to Chelsea immediately, instead returning to Belgium to seek treatment for the affected muscle.
Roberto Martinez, when asked about Romelu Lukaku, added that it is tiredness. Lukaku didn’t feel 100 percent to play tomorrow. It is soreness in his tissue. Every decision made involves both medical departments together for the benefit of the player. Obviously, there is a great understanding between the two sets of medical personnel and they want to do their best for the player. According to Roberto, every decision is also made in consultation with the club.
The match against Italy is pointless
While 28-year-old Romelu Lukaku and 30-year-old Eden Hazard will be missed against Italy, even some of Belgium’s Roberto Martinez players at his disposal are not happy with Sunday’s play. After his side’s defeat to France, team-mate Eden Hazard’s, 29-year-old Thibaut Courtois, told reporters that Saturday’s match against Italy was pointless. It’s pointless to be third in the League of Nations. Courtois doesn’t know why they should play this match. Courtois treats this as a friendly match.
