“Maguire Remains Man Utd Captain” Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
Manchester United coach, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms defender Harry Maguire will remain captain.
The 27-year-old Maguire was found guilty of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, and repeated attempts of bribery on the Greek island of Syros. The defender was given a suspended prison sentence as he maintains his innocence. He has as well appealed against the decision which nullifies the conviction.
As consequence, Gareth Southgate withdrew Maguire from the England squad last month. Although the England manager said he will “absolutely be looking” to recall the defender in October.
Maguire’s fate as Manchester United captain lied on Solskjaer’s hands. The majority thought the Norwegian will suspend him from him captaincy but no, instead, he confirmed his role.
Solskjaer said, “he is going to be our captain. He has handled it really well and of course, I’ll be here to support him. We’ll just leave Harry and his people and the process to run. For me, he is a top, an absolute top human being and has always been a positive guy with the right values. So I really hope we can see Harry performing at his best”.
Manchester United play a friendly against Aston Villa on Saturday. On 19th September, they meet Crystal Palace to begin their Premier League 2020/21 campaign.
