According to Rio Ferdinand, Manchester City’s unstoppable form has threatened to turn the Premier League into a one-horse race.
City has by far the best offensive record in the league, with 23 goals in their first seven games, and only Antonio Conte’s Tottenham have conceded less this season.
The triumph also returns City to the top of the Premier League, and Ferdinand stated that Pep Guardiola’s club is already on track to win a third consecutive league title.
‘It’s concerning for everyone else.’ It appears to be a one-horse race. They will only become stronger. Haaland has taken off like a racehorse. He’s raised the bar for everyone else.
‘Grealish responded to the critics admirably with a strong effort and a goal. Kyle Walker is returning. Everything appears to be going well. Every squad will face challenges, but this is looking promising.’
Haaland’s record-breaking start to the season has earned him praise from all corners of the football world, and Ferdinand believes the Norwegian striker might smash the Premier League goalscoring record as well as put his name in contention for the Ballon d’Or if he can sustain his present form.
He’s headed in the right direction. I’m going to say 35. (goals). He has the potential to break records because he is part of a team that completely dominates. He has passion and hunger.
‘He’s in the running for the Ballon d’Or.’ If he maintains his current form and City wins the Champions League, there will be no one who can compete with him. Today, he scored with his first touch. He wasn’t in the game, but that doesn’t bother him.’ He continued.
Rachel Brown agreed with Ferdinand’s appraisal of the City striker, adding that the signing of Haaland had supplied the clubs missing piece.’
‘I’m not sure how you’re going to stop Haaland. He has everything. He’s been Manchester City’s missing component. They’ve lacked a focal point, a true number nine. The defenders only served to harm Erling Haaland.’
On October 2, City will face Ferdinand’s beloved Manchester United in their quest for Premier League success.
Erik ten Hag’s team has appeared completely transformed since a poor start to the season, but a trip to the Etihad will undoubtedly be the Dutchman’s hardest test as Red Devils head coach to date.
