Julian Alvarez and Sergio Aguero are already being compared by Manchester City fans after the star scored a hat-trick for River Plate.
In January, City agreed to pay £14 million for the River Plate striker, who will join in the summer after finishing the season in Argentina. After seeing footage of Alvarez’s recent heroics, City fans are eagerly anticipating his arrival after he scored a hat-trick in a 4-1 victory over Patronato. He slammed his effort into the net beyond the goalkeeper’s reach from a tight angle on the right side.
One supporter wrote, ‘It’s like watching Aguero all over again.’ ‘Look forward to watching this youngster for City next season, amazing talent,’ said another.
‘Julian Alvarez scores the most Sergio Aguero-esque near-post goal for River Plate tonight,’ said a third.
Pep Guardiola is looking forward to working with Alvarez and stated after he signed in the January transfer window: ‘For the age and the price, it is a very, really excellent deal for many reasons in the future.’
‘He has a lot of energy. A man with a strong sense of purpose. He possesses the quality, as well as the movement, from behind. He’s a thug on the streets.
‘The club has opted to double-up again under [River Plate coach] Marcelo Gallardo, who is one of the top managers in the world. He’ll join us in preseason and we’ll see what happens.’
