The Citizens signed Stefan Ortega on a free transfer as the new backup goaltender to Ederson’s first choice.

It’s Stefan Ortega’s dream

The German goalkeeper left Bundesliga-relegated team Arminia Bielefeld and signed a three-year contract with the PL champions. Current No. 2 US goaltender Zack Steffen is expected to go out on loan this summer, with the player looking for minutes ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

Stefan Ortega started all Bielefeld Bundesliga matches last season bar one due to covid and boosted his reputation despite his club finishing second bottom. Comfortable with the ball at his feet, the German has been on standby for Germany’s Euro 2020 squad and has previously been linked with a move to Bayern Munich as support for Neuer.

Football director Begiristain said that Stefan Ortega joined to compete with other goalkeepers and help their young players, so this is a transfer they are really happy to provide. Man City’s manager will give him the opportunity to play in domestic cup competitions as well as serve as back-ups for Ederson. Stefan Ortega said that getting the chance to join this group of players and help continue the club’s success is a dream come true for him.

A little about Zack Steffen

Zack Steffen is expected to join the Middlesbrough Championship on a season-long loan to help his World Cup hopes. Zack is in battle with new Gunners signing Turner ahead of Qatar 2022 with manager Berhalter to further specify which goalkeeper he will choose to start the game with Wales.

USMNT International, which has a contract until 2025, is the reserve for Ederson’s first choice from 2020 after returning from a loan spell in Germany with Fortuna Düsseldorf. He was heavily criticized for an error in the Reds’ FA Cup semi-final defeat that allowed Mane to score. Boro narrowly missed the promotion playoffs last season and manager Chris Wilder is set to shake up his roster.
