Liverpool, Manchester United, and Chelsea are accustomed to rivalry on the field, and the trio is now engaged in a struggle off it, as they battle for the signing of one of Europe’s most exciting young prospects.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Premier League trio are all keeping an eye on the development of Barcelona wonderkid Gavi, who will be a free agency next season.

It should be emphasized, however, that Chelsea’s participation is now in doubt following the UK Government’s censure of the club last week.

According to reports, negotiations between the 17-year-old and Barcelona over a contract renewal have stagnated, with the two parties unable to agree on terms. The midfielder has a £42 million buyout clause in place until June 30 if the aforementioned clubs wish to explore a move for him. Following that, it increases to £84m. PSG and Bayern Munich are also interested in the Spain international.

Barca president Joan Laporta previously stated of Gavi’s contract situation: ‘With these renewals, the player has a lot to say.

‘That is why I am so appreciative of those who have renewed their memberships, as they understand and cherish what Barca is. That is the question I pose to the players. They will remain at Barca if they so desire.’

‘Along with the sporting adventure, which will undoubtedly be excellent, they know they will be recognized and respected professionally through a lucrative contract. I hope the same is true for Gavi.’

‘I hope we can achieve an agreement that is satisfactory for both parties, but I am adamant that the first priority must be Barca.’

Despite his youth, Gavi has established himself as a key member of the Nou Camp first squad, having made 33 appearances in all competitions this season.
