Manchester United “are looking at midfield targets in the transfer market” with Paul Pogba likely to depart Old Trafford.
The 28-year-old Paul Pogba will be a free agent in the summer when his contract expires. Even with the time nearing, he is still undecided as to where his future lies. On the other hand, United are reportedly planning for life without the midfielder. It is said they are assessing options suppose Pogba leaves for nothing.
Drawing from reports, the midfielder brought in to replace their £89m record signing will be of international standard but not a marquee name in the same mold as Pogba.
Talks over a potential new contract for the 2018 World Cup winner took place in the summer without agreement, though negotiations are not definitively over.
Pogba started the season encouragingly. He recorded seven assists in his first four Premier League appearances. However, his form slumped badly as Solskjaer’s tenure as a manager fell apart.
Pogba reached a low point in his United career when he was sent off for a bad tackle on Naby Keita during the 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool. Thereafter, he suffered a thigh injury during a training session with France during the November internationals. He has been recovering in Dubai and returned to Man united last weekend.
Pogba will be sidelined until January as confirmed by Ralf Rangnick last week. The German Interim coach said he would make no effort to convince Pogba to stay at United.
“Players have to want and stay at a big club like Manchester United. If a player does not want to play for a club like Manchester United, medium or long-term, I don’t think it makes sense to convince him to change his mind”.
“I don’t think anyone in the club should try to convince a player to stay”.
