Ravel Morrison has urged Man United to bring back Mason Greenwood following a string of impressive performances while on loan at Getafe.
Greenwood, 22, joined the Madrid-based outfit on deadline day after United announced that he would recommence his career away from Old Trafford. The Red Devils had completed a six-month internal investigation on Greenwood after charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in February.
The England international hadn’t played for United since January 2022 after being arrested and made his return to competitive football for Getafe as a second-half substitute in a 3-2 victory over Osasuna on September 17. Greenwood started his first game later that month, as he grabbed an assist in a 2-2 draw against Athletic Club.
It took Greenwood four La Liga appearances before striking his first goal – Getafe’s second goal in a 2-2 draw against Celta Vigo. Greenwood has since cemented a place in the Getafe starting XI and impressed during their enthralling 3-3 draw against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday.
After that match, a compilation of Greenwood’s performance was posted on social media, and it’s safe to say Morrison was wowed by what he saw from the United loanee. In reply to the video, Morrison tweeted: “What a player. United need to bring him back !!”
Meanwhile, Atletico star Antoine Griezmann, who scored twice during the match, singled out Greenwood for praise. “Mason Greenwood was really causing us problems in the second half,” Griezmann said after the game. “We couldn’t stop him and it cost us the game.”
Getafe manager Jose Bordalas also hailed the impact of Greenwood after the match. He said: “A fantastic game, like the whole team. I said it from the first day he arrived, he is a fantastic player, who would reach his best level little by little, we have treated him really well and the whole team has played a great game.”
Greenwood’s performances have not gone unnoticed in Spain. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona are interested in acquiring his services. Despite that, it’s expected that Greenwood, who has 18 months left to run on his contract, will see out his loan spell with Getafe before being sold by United next summer.
