Mason Greenwood faces backlash as supporters hand back his No 11 Utd shirt and his merchandise removed from the club’s website and megastore .

As Greenwood remained in police custody over allegations of rape and assault, the backlash over his arrest continued.

United brought out a statement following the original accusations. Since, the side has confirmed that the striker will not train with the team or play for them “until further notice.’

The club has stopped short of suspending the player. But, it has now taken all of his merchandise down from their official website.

Searching for the player’s name on the online shop brings up the message, “sorry, your search for Mason Greenwood did not match any products” whilst he has also been removed from the “Shop By Player” section.

Team-mates including Cristiano Ronaldo, David de Gea, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford appear to have unfollowed the 20-year-old on social media while Nike suspended his sponsorship deal as they are “deeply concerned” with the situation.

United’s shirt sponsors TeamViewer said they are ‘closely monitoring developments’ and official partner Cadbury announced Greenwood will not feature on any of their marketing products.

And a number of fans turned up at the megastore demanding a refund for replica Greenwood No 11 shirts that they no longer want.
