Manchester City will pay £30 million for Brighton’s Marc Cucurella to solve their troublesome left-back position this summer.

Pep Guardiola stated last week that he wants to bring in ‘hungry’ players, and the 23-year-old matches that description. Cucurella joined Brighton from Getafe last summer and has appeared in 34 league games, scoring once and assisting once.
Cucurella has gained possession 241 times in the Premier League, more than any other fullback.
Brighton paid Getafe £15.4 million for him, but Sportsmail knows City would have to pay twice as much to secure a player who spent six years in Barcelona’s youth system and has played for Spain once.

This season, City has primarily utilized Oleksandr Zinchenko and Joao Cancelo at left-back.
Cancelo has been excellent, but his natural place is on the other side of the field.

Guardiola is looking for a more traditional left-back to give balance, and Cucurella’s age and adaptability (he can also play as a wide midfielder) have persuaded him to make the transfer.

City has already signed Erling Haaland, and Guardiola wants to add another midfielder because Fernandinho and Ilkay Gundogan will be leaving shortly.
