Manchester City and Zagreb face consequences because of their fans.
Manchester City has been charged by UEFA for the throwing of objects by their fans. This happened in the 2-0 Champions League win over Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday.
It was such a ‘stubborn’ match that saw Manchester City investing in more efforts to beat Zagreb 2-0 in the Champions League match.
This should have been a much bigger victory with City wasting a host of first-half chances. However, in the end, they were grateful to Sterling for making the difference.
Until he (Sterling) broke the deadlock from close range with his ninth goal of the season, it had been an unexpected frustrating night for Guardiola’s side despite the 80% possession.
It is not the case that City struggled to create chances in the absence of the injured Kevin de Bruyne, but they were unable to take them until the second half.
Sergio Aguero was the first to waste an opportunity. Bernardo Silva was also off target from two good openings. Aguero skied another effort before Ilkay Gundogan blasted a shot against the bar and David Silva fired from close range.
When Aguero finally got the ball into the net, Dutch referee Serdar Gozubuyuk had already blown his whistle for a handful by Bernardo Silva.
The second half saw Croatian champions Dinamo, who were roared on by their fans throughout, put up more resistance before Sterling replaced Bernardo Silva and quickly gave City their breakthrough.
The fans “celebrations”
As if that was not enough, fans from both teams had their “mysterious” ways of reacting to the match.
Zagreb supporters ripped out around 150 seats at the Etihad Stadium as revealed by MEN Sport.
In this case, Zagreb has been charged for the offense as well as “acts of damages.”
There were also allegations of fans scuffling with security, spitting, ripping out seats and throwing missiles by Manchester City fans sitting close to the away section during the game which City won 2-0.
Manchester City as well has been charged by UEFA for their fan’s behavior of throwing objects in the Champions League.
It surely was a match that entertained mixed reactions from both sides.
