Manchester United has agreed a £1.28m fee with Inter Milan for the defender, Ashley Young. Solskjaer confirms Young is on the brink of signing for the Serie A side.

Young has been granted permission to conclude a move to Serie A after being targeted by the title-chasing Italians.

“Well, I think it was fair for Ashley.” Said Solskjaer.

“He is 35 in the summer and if he gets a two-year contract somewhere, I think it’s up to him to take it. We weren’t ready to offer that.”

“He’s been a good servant for the club. He has been the captain and has won trophies, leagues, cups, but we’ve got players coming through.”

Since Young told United of his desire to join Inter Milan, he has not been involved in the club’s past three games.

It is understood the deal includes an add-on fee which will be activated if Inter wins Serie A this season.

If the January transfer is finalized, it will bring an end to Young’s eight-and-a-half-year stay at Old Trafford.

Elaborating on the deal, Solskjaer added, “When this situation came up and we have the options we’ve got at full-back-Brandon Williams and Wan Bissaka.”

“Luke Shaw is potentially one of the best left-backs in England for me. Then we’ve got Diogo Dalot and Tim Fosu Mensah-they are all fit. You’ve got loads of full-backs.”

“Ashley’s mindset was that he wanted to try a new adventure and he is approaching 35 now. He has done a fantastic job and he’s served this club fantastically. I think it was an opportunity for him that we had to say yes. We got a transfer fee for someone so loyal to the club.”

“Good luck. That’s what Manchester United do, you have players for a long time and then they move on and someone else steps in.”

Meanwhile, the deal is subject to a medical, scheduled to take place in Milan on Friday and the agreement of personal terms.
