German manager Ralf Rangnick will take over the first team until the end of the season and a permanent successor to Solskjaer will then be appointed.

A little about the topic

The Red Devils are going through a thorough process to appoint their next manager, the club confirmed. The German manager was given a job until the end of the season on a temporary basis after Solskjaer was sacked in November and the search for a permanent successor to the Norwegian was in full swing. Ajax manager Erik ten Hag and PSG head coach Mauricio Pochettino are the two chosen candidates for the role, with the club looking to reach an agreement with their next manager before the end of the season.

What did John Murtough say?

It is understood that the recruitment process for a permanent manager has been going on for some time, and this was confirmed by director of football Murtough when he addressed investors on Tuesday. John Murtough said they are now going through a thorough process of appointing a new permanent manager to take over this summer with the goal of getting them back up to the challenge for these domestic and European titles.

Speaking about the duration of what they want the next manager to deliver, John said that in the PL they saw improved results under interim manager Rangnick, after running through the October and early November period that saw Solskjaer’s departure as manager. They know consistency is key as they aim for a top four finish this season. John wants to reiterate however that this is not the end goal for Man Utd and everyone at the club is focused on challenging the top trophies.

Chief Executive Officer Richard Arnold, added that everyone associated with Man Utd must have faith in the possibilities ahead of them, both on the pitch and in the way they deal with and serve their fans. They have a clear vision and they are executing a winning strategy with an empowered leadership team to take it forward.
