Manchester United’s rebuild for next season is already started, with the club planning a bid for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

The prolific striker’s contract in Bavaria has fewer than 18 months left on it, but he has yet to obtain new terms of an extension.

According to reports, United are keeping an eye on the 33-year-predicament old’s at Bayern Munich and are working on a deal to bring him to Old Trafford.

They suggest that if he does leave Bayern, the Red Devils are ready to make a first offer for his services.

As a result, reporter Heiko Niedderer suggested on the current episode of BILD’s daily football podcast, ‘Stammplatz,’ that Bayern should hurry up the process of tying down their No 9 to a contract extension.

‘The bosses should now get down to business and extend the contract as soon as possible,’ he said.

Lewandowski is ‘surprised’ that no one from the German giants has approached him about a new contract, according to Niedderer, and the Poland international wants clarity on his future by the summer.

On Tuesday night, Lewandowski showed his never-ending class by scoring a 10-minute hat-trick in Bayern’s 7-1 victory over RB Salzburg in the Champions League last-16 second leg.

For the seventh consecutive season, he scored 40 goals in all competitions thanks to that treble.

With Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, and Marcus Rashford’s futures at Manchester United in doubt, a striker appears to be a priority for the club this summer. Then there’s the Mason Greenwood scandal, which has gotten a lot of attention.

With United’s top-four aspirations in jeopardy this season, there’s no certainty Lewandowski would contemplate a move to Old Trafford.
