Frimpong has yet to make his international debut for the Netherlands

According to reports, Manchester United has shown interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s right-back Jeremie Frimpong. Frimpong, who is under a deal with the Bundesliga side until June 2025, has impressed under the guidance of Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso this season. Alonso has deployed the 21-year-old as a right wing-back, resulting in Frimpong’s eight goals and nine assists in all competitions this season. Frimpong scored again last weekend as Leverkusen beat Schalke 3-0, and Alonso’s side is currently seventh in the Bundesliga as they chase European qualification. Despite his impressive performances, Frimpong has yet to make his international debut for the Netherlands, and he was left out of new Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman’s first team for last month’s Euro 2024 Qualifiers. He did, however, earn a place in the Netherlands team for the FIFA World Cup but did not make an appearance under former United boss Louis van Gaal.

Jeremie played 51 times for the Scottish champions before moving to Leverkusen in January 2021

Frimpong started his career at Manchester City but failed to make a first-team appearance before joining Celtic in September 2019. Jeremie played 51 times for the Scottish champions before moving to Leverkusen in January 2021. Under Erik ten Hag, United’s manager, Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have been called upon at right-back this season. Dalot has played 33 times, while Wan-Bissaka has played 22 times. Both players’ contracts expire at the end of next season, with Dalot’s deal having been extended by an extra 12 months in December 2021.

Frimpong has recorded the most completed dribbles, aside from Jude Bellingham

Frimpong is known for his versatility, as he has been used in full-back and midfield roles in addition to his current position as a wing-back. He possesses an unrivalled engine for bursts of explosive pace, registering a league-topping 834 sprints in the Bundesliga this term, while only four other players in the division have recorded a faster top speed. Furthermore, Frimpong has recorded the most completed dribbles, aside from Jude Bellingham. His ability to win fouls for his team is also impressive, having won 54 fouls for his side, which is the fifth-highest tally in the division. Although his passing accuracy needs improvement, Frimpong is not afraid of playing more adventurous passes to cut through opponents’ defensive lines.

His pass map reveals that he typically exchanges with his teammates midway inside his own box or just inside the opposition’s half down his right channel, while there is an abundance of activity closer to the opposition box.

Overall, Frimpong’s performances suggest that he is a young player with plenty of potential and a long international future ahead of him. United would be signing a versatile player capable of playing at full-back, wing-back, and in midfield while providing pace, energy, and a serious goal threat.
