Marco van Basten ended his playing career in 1995. He was three times the best player in the world. He is 56 years old and says that the boots should have been hung earlier.

If he had behaved like that in his time, football fans would have missed him a lot!

Dutch football legend Marco van Basten said that he should have ended his active sports career earlier. So, if he could go back in time, he would definitely do so. The 56-year-old former goal scorer spoke about this in an interview with the BBC.

“My career was not worth the pain of all my injuries,” said the 1988 European champions.

Van Basten says that football is not everything in life. So, you can have a good life without it: “It is always possible to have a good life. “There is so much more to this life than football,” said the Dutchman, who has been suffering from ankle injuries since he was 20, in an interview. But then football was my whole life. ”

“If I were that age and in the same situation today, I would have made a different decision,” added the three-time Ballon d’Or winner, who has won the Champions League twice with AC Milan.

It was because of ankle and knee injuries that he, the best forward of his generation and one of the greatest goal scorers of all time, retired from football in 1995 at the age of 30. “I cannot play football even today. “I can’t hit the ball, I can’t do anything on foot,” Van Basten told the BBC.
