Mario Gotze survived a humiliating fall due to his heroism in 2014, but this summer the player can head to the San Siro.

A little about the topic

The German player who famously scored the winning goal for Germany in the 2014 World Cup final is wanted by Serie A champions AC Milan, with a cut price in the pipeline. Milan, who brought an 11-year wait of domestic title glory to an end in 2021-22, have benefited greatly from mixing youth with experience in their San Siro ranks. With the intention of sticking to this approach – one that has seen the potential of Sandro Tonali and Rafael Leao thrive next to the pedigree of Olivier Giroud and Ibrahimovic – more proven performers are being sought.

Pioli’s side is already closing in on an agreement with Belgian player Divock Origi as it cuts ties with the PL heavyweights the Reds. The young Champions League winner is now a free agent and was looking to take on a new challenge in Italian football this summer. He can be joined by PSV player Mario, with a man who suffered a meek fall from grace on the back of his World Cup-winning feats, restoring his reputation in the Netherlands.

Mario Gotze was of interest to the Rossoneri in 2020 as he reached the end of his second post at Borussia Dortmund, but at that stage the decision was made to link with Schmidt in Eindhoven. The player has now left PSV to take the reins from Benfica’s Portuguese players, leaving Mario to weigh his options.

Mario Gotze cost for Milan

Rossoneri is again asking questions about the potential availability of Mario and is aware that there could be a price rollover. It is understood that a bid of between €4 million and €5 million is all it takes to trigger an exemption clause in Germany’s international contract.

There are discussions going on at the San Siro when it comes to a formal approach, with Mario revealing at PSV that he has the form and fitness issues that have kept him in Dortmund and Bayern Munich. Germany international Mario Gotze has taken in 77 appearances over the past two seasons, with 18 goals and a healthy amount of assists recorded in those appearances.
