Weston McKennie is highly regarded by his coach, who puts the player ahead of the likes of Tyler Adams and Christian Pulisic across the continent.

What did Massimiliano say about Weston McKennie?

McKennie is the best American player in Europe right now, says Bianconeri manager Massimiliano Allegri, who has applauded the levels the Juventus star offers for club and country. USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie initially crossed the Atlantic to join Schalke as a teenager, before switching to a loan – followed by a permanent move to Turin – his stock rose further. While Weston has been tempted by off-field antics to the point throughout his playing career, the player has further doubled his impressive skills over the past year during a tough deadline for the Bianconeri.

Speaking at the pre-season press conference, the Juventus boss – who has led the club to another Champions League qualifying finish as their silver drought continues – certainly thinks he’s close to being in his class. Massimiliano Allegri, giving his opinion on the quality of the American player, stated that Weston McKennie is probably the best American player playing in Europe. According to the Italian coach, he thinks it is very important for Weston McKennie to continue to show the high levels he has at Juventus.

What will happen next?

With the Stars and Stripes sitting out the Russia 2018 World Cup thanks to a humiliating qualifying disaster, the nation is set to compete in this year’s Qatar 2022 tournament. Weston is almost certainly expected to be involved – unlike several of his Bianconeri teammates, thanks to Italy failing to reach the Gulf State event – and could well lead the fleet of European talent that is making cuts for Berhalter. Other faces expected to make the cut include the Blues’ Christian Pulisic, The Peacocks duo Tyler Adams and Brendan Aaronson, and Gunners goaltender Matt Turner.
