Matt Doherty acknowledged that the Tottenham players should take responsibility for firing Jose Mourinho’s after failing to deliver consistent results.

What did Matt Doherty say about Jose Mourinho?

Jose Mourinho was relieved of his managerial duties at the Spurs after just 18 months in the line on April 19, just days before the club’s appearance in the Carabao Cup final. The North London outfit lost out on the Man City show and ended up finishing seventh in the Premier League, while Matt Doherty lamented the team’s collective failure to meet Jose Mourinho’s high standards during the 2020-21 season. On the Portuguese coach during his international duty with the Republic of Ireland, Matt Doherty said he had only been there for 18 months. According to Matt, if it had been three or four years old, it might have been a different conversation, but they just weren’t getting results for him. A manager always loses his job, but as players, they were the ones on the field and they couldn’t get results for him, which was a shame because Jose Mourinho is one of the best managers in history.

Unfortunately these things happen in football

Matt Doherty earned £ 15m moving to Tottenham from Wolves last August, establishing himself as one of the most consistent defenders on the Molineux top flight. The 29-year-old failed to live up to expectations during his first campaign in the Spurs, as he ended up on and off the team under Jose, who was temporarily replaced in the dugout by Ryan Mason. Matt has nothing but praise, however, for the man now set to be Roma’s next full-time manager, adding that he definitely got a hefty crack of the whip and was still playing 25, 26, 27 games, that’s a lot of games in the season so he definitely got fair crack. Matt also said that he had a great relationship with him. He was a neighbor for a whole year, so the relationship was normal and he was a great guy, but unfortunately these things happen in football. It was, but he is Mourinho, one of the best in history and Matt has nothing but praise for him.
