US goaltender Matt Turner has revealed how the FIFA gaming franchise influenced his decision to support the Gunners, with the USMNT star now on the club’s books.
What did Matt Turner say?
Matt Turner, who hopes to be named to Team USA for the 2022 World Cup, completed a move to the Premier League heavyweights over the summer while severing ties with MLS side New England Revolution. The USMNT star is now living the dream in north London, with pub visits in New York trading for a life at Emirates Stadium after nailing his colors to the gunners’ mast at the start of a blossoming career.
Commenting on how he became a Gunners cheerleader, the US national team player told reporters that he means it’s not really the best Gunners support story ever. According to Matt Turner, it was after the 2010 World Cup that he bought his first FIFA game, and when it says “Which club do you want to support or choose?” – Obviously, “A” came up first, and Arsenal was there! But also, Turner made that connection because his sisters both played for a local club team called Arsenal, so he just made that connection right there and kind of stuck with it.
Obviously there were some really great times before the early 2010s to be a Gunners fan and Matt would have been up pretty early depending on when the kick was. At 12:30 in the US it was 7:30 in the morning, so any time Arsenal were playing they were doing their best to watch. Matt Turner says that when he got a little older he entered the pub culture in New York and he was there for the fans and for those vibes.
A little about Matt Turner
US National Team goaltender Matt Turner must be patient in chasing a regular game with the Gunners as he vies with Ramsdale for a starting berth, with all three of his appearances yet to come in Europa League competition.
