South African cricketer Matthew Breetzke has received his first Test squad call-up for the upcoming tour of the West Indies. The 25-year-old, who has previously played six T20Is, is currently showcasing his talents with Northamptonshire in the County Championship. Breetzke was part of an ‘A’ squad that toured Sri Lanka last year, proving his skills on the international stage.

The Proteas’ Test squad for the West Indies tour includes familiar faces like Temba Bavuma, Aiden Markram, and Kagiso Rabada, as well as some new additions like Nandre Burger and Tristan Stubbs. The team is eager to bounce back from their recent defeat in New Zealand and climb up the World Test Championship standings.

Test coach Shukri Conrad emphasized the importance of this tour in improving South Africa’s ranking in the ICC World Test Championship. With a strong squad in place, the Proteas are ready to put on a stellar performance in the Caribbean. Players not currently involved in other leagues will undergo a conditioning camp before heading to the West Indies for the two Tests scheduled in August.

The first Test will take place in Port of Spain, Trinidad on August 7, followed by the second Test in Guyana on August 15. South African cricket fans can look forward to an exciting series as their team aims to make a mark in the Test arena once again.
