Matthew Mott has been appointed the new England head coach for mens white-ball, with a four-year deal. England named the outstanding Matthew Mott as the head coach of its mens white-ball side on Wednesday, following his successful spell as Australias head of the Australia Women’s national side.

Australia’s Matthew Mott was appointed Australias womens head coach in 2015, during seven years of his tenure, Australian women’s side won two World T20 titles, won the 2022 Womens World Cup (ODI format) and went undefeated in four Ashes series against England.

Matthew Mott has left his post as head coach of the Australian Womens National Team for the head coaching job with Eoin Morgan’s men ahead of the T20 World Cup and the 2023 World Cup. Before taking over as Matthew Motts post at Australias womens national team in 2015, Mott worked as the head coach at New South Wales — leading them to Champions League T20 title triumph in 2009 — then as the head coach at Glamorgan, reaching the final of Yorkshires bank 40 tournament in 2013, and later worked as an advisor for Ireland at the ICC mens world cup 2015.

Matthew Motts was Trevor Baylis’s assistant at New South Wales for three years before taking the role as Head Coach in 2007, and has spoken about his admiration of how England mens cricket was played under his former mentor.

Now, in Englands turbulent rebuild, the way Matthew Motts fits into the puzzle, along with Brendon McCullum, the powerful presence of skipper Eoin Morgan, ECBs new Director of Cricket Rob Key, and of course the rank-and-file England White-ball side will be fascinating to watch. Days after anointing Brendon McCullum the England mens Test side coach, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Wednesday that it had appointed the white-ball formats coach, in the shape of former Victorian Matthew Mott. Australia has been such a success over many years, and as England are the best mens white-ball side in the world, it would be a chance for Matthew Mott, the Australian Womens coach, to put in place some of the things that he has taught to that dominant Australian team.

Mott has also helped Australian Women’s cricket team to 26 straight One Day International victories, which is a record for both mens and womens matches. Mott expressed her pleasure in being appointed as Englands white-ball coach, noting that, although she is an Australian, she has strong links with the UK, and the chance to work with a team that is established drew her to it. We are fortunate that we were able to hire a Head Coach who has been involved in international cricket for the past several years, as well as working with franchise cricket across the globe.
