Mauricio Pochettino Claims PSG is ‘impatient’ After Failing to win the Champions League.
Mauricio Pochettino has stated PSG’s season was as good as Manchester City’s since both teams won domestic titles – and has conceded that there is ‘impatience’ within the club as he approaches the sack.
Pochettino has been under increasing scrutiny throughout his tenure. This after he failed to get the best out of his illustrious side, despite having Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Lionel Messi on his books.
After agreeing to a hefty agreement to keep Mbappe on board for another two seasons, the French giants are likely to make a slew of changes at the club. Likely, sports director Leonardo is on his way out and Pochettino apparently set to follow.
However, despite merely winning the Ligue 1 championship last season – the bare minimum anticipated in Paris – Pochettino sought to defend his successes. He had done precisely what Man City had done at another club with great expectations.
‘PSG is in urgent need of a Champions League victory. The aim is to win it, and setbacks are expected. But we overcome them by winning the Championship, just like City did in England,’ he explained.
‘This season has been a continual learning curve because of the demands and the dressing room we have,’ he continued.
‘We, like Chelsea, City, and Liverpool, were one step away from eliminating Madrid’.
‘Like [Carlo] Ancelotti, [Laurent] Blanc, and other coaches, we won. However, there is a lot of irritability in the club. I believe we’ll be able to reach an agreement that allows the players, technical staff, and management to all work in the same direction’.
PSG bosses want to employ a new manager who they feel will offer them the best chance of eventually winning the Champions League.
As the club officials continue their hunt for a replacement for Pochettino, Roma manager Jose Mourinho is said to be a possibility.
The PSG administration is thought to favor Zinedine Zidane. But the former Real Madrid manager is holding off until after the World Cup in Qatar this winter to succeed Didier Deschamps as France’s national coach.
