The Argentine coach made clear that Mbappe is a crucial member of his team and didn’t hesitate to underline his importance by stressing how much he wants the 23-year-old to renew his contract.
Pochettino selfishly would like to have Mbappe with him
Mauricio Pochettino has reiterated that he wants Kylian Mbappe to renew his contract and stay put at Paris Saint-Germain, with the French forward’s deal at the Parc des Princes set to expire this summer. The Argentine coach made clear that Mbappe is a crucial member of his team and didn’t hesitate to underline his importance by stressing how much he wants the 23-year-old to renew his contract. “Selfishly, I would like to have him with me, even take him with me on holiday, to my house,” Pochettino said during PSG’s press conference ahead of Saturday’s match against Lens. “It’s very obvious that the club would love for him to renew his contract. It would be great for him to stay.”
Kylian has yet to decide on his immediate future
Pochettino pointed out that these types of decisions are made “once all the objectives are achieved.” Hence, he thinks it is only suitable for it to happen once PSG mathematically clinched the Ligue 1 title. That can happen this weekend in the event they don’t lose against Lens or if Marseille fail to grab all three points against Rennes on Sunday. Meanwhile, reports in France revealed on Friday that Mbappe’s mother is spending a few days in Doha, where she is meeting with PSG’s leaders, accompanied by her 15-year-old son Ethan. According to L’Equipe, there will also be talks over a possible two-year contract extension. The newspaper claims that Mbappe has yet to decide on his immediate future and that there are talks with Real Madrid and a third club, which has not been identified.
Pochettino said that the negotiations with Mbappe have not affected his pitch performance and that he has had to deal with similar situations before. The Argentine coach also discussed his future at PSG after Manchester United announced the appointment of Erik ten Hag for next season. “I have never been aware of the rumours, and I don’t comment on them,” said Pochettino. “I am fully committed to PSG.”
